Top trends from the runways and into our homes

Polka dot

Even if you had a polka dot phobia, you can’t help but  fall in love with this dotty spot, a big trend this summer. “Round, soft, colorful, senseless and unknowing,” once mused the Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama on her unwavering obsession with polka dots. We love how Kate Watson Smyth has used Alternative’s Dotty Damson on the stairs to her new loft. Visit her at madaboutthehouse.

Seventies & Eighties

Mega bell-bottoms, dare-to-wear flares, flowing maxis and patchwork prints are just some of the re imagined revival pieces that rock.  Indie in the Eighties is creeping in too with luxe suede and the iconic Purple Rain. Whichever  decade you choose, the message is to be confident with colour and pattern. Stamp your individual style in fashion and on floors!

White Heat

When the heat rises there is only one shade in the frame. We can’t count how many times we’ve seen ice white denim jeans this season and those Stan Smiths! And why? Well because they pretty well go with everything. Same applies in the home and white is even hotter when mixed with texture. Take a look at Wool Iconic and Wool Pinstripe carpet.

New Weave

May be because it’s summer that we just love the big woven Provencal-style baskets but weaving was also a big hit on the catwalks and this simple flooring classic is now the height of urban and country cool. Alternative has an abundance of natural fibre fine and chunky weaves. Sisal Metallics add an extra dimension to woven flooring, with its heightened sheen for discreet glamour.

I want Candy

Think pink, think Prada. Don’t be bashful about pink. This colour looks great teamed with woven herringbones and is perfect with modern greys. The Quirky runners feature pretty pink patterns across all designs from dots, plaids to geometrics.

The Third Dimension

Here is a taster of what’s to come next month.  Alternative Flooring is delighted to announce Ben Pentreath as its new carpet collaborator, adding great British pattern to the Quirky B collection.  Ben is one of the UK’s leading architectural and interior designers. His architectural practice has worked on projects from new housing developments for The Prince of Wales to private houses in the UK, Ireland and the United States.

At Alternative, floors have never looked or felt so good.
