Paper chains are making a comeback this Christmas! It is such a nice memory for so many of us who remember sitting with our parents as kids making home-made paper chains and then wrapping them around the Christmas’s tree. Make the chains out of shiny, marble- effect paper and then use masking tape to tape both ends to the ceiling over your dining table they can make a fun, eye-catching feature!’

‘Always opt for warm white fairy lights when dressing your home and garden for Christmas. They will give a golden glow which appears much warmer than cold blue lights. Then, when you’re finished at the end of the season roll up your fairy lights on toilet rolls to keep them neat and tidy in your cupboard for next year!’

‘Here at Mini Moderns HQ we are both big fans of Christmas. As the one time of the year that we take a full week off from running our business, it marks a natural point to reflect on the year, and on previous years.

The nostalgia starts with decorating the tree. Over the past 20 years we have amassed a collection of baubles that have specific memories attached, and these all come flooding back as we unpack the decoration box. Some remind us of where they were purchased, and many have been given to us by friends and family, and so have special significance.

Our nostalgic indulgence doesn’t stop us from indulging in the key decorating trends, and over the years we’ve tried them all – from naturals, to all-white, via dried fruit. At the moment, we’re enjoying an eclectic mix with a strong nod to the mid-century colour palette.

Our love of Christmas definitely developed as youngsters, when Christmas was all about watching craft projects on Blue Peter. Who can forget the annual creation of the advent crown? So, we always like to indulge our nostalgic side with some kind of craft project. This year we’ve made a wreath from our wallpapers, which perfectly ties in with our mid-century colourful theme.’

Use the hues in your favourite artwork or on your walls – or both, to inform your festive colour scheme. Think of Christmas as an opportunity to go that bit further and sparklier with the decor you already love – who knows you might enjoy this ‘extra’ look so much you never take it down.

Baubles, candles and foliage in The Pink House

This mantel decor from last year stayed up until February! In my last house, I kept Christmas baubles hanging from the dining room chandelier for three years until we moved out.

Jamie Watkins and Tom Kennedy aka Divine Savages have a mission – to inject a splash of wonder into your home, encouraging a braver use of pattern, print and colour.

‘Here at DSHQ we can’t wait for December to arrive, any excuse for putting up more bold decoration! We have a stash of more traditional, golden Christmas decorations that we’ve had for years, which we love to bring out and then mix with a few new additions.

This year we’ve blended our ornate glass baubles with playful ornaments like snowy owls and bejewelled wild animals – it’s our must have mix of the divine and savage!’
