Happy real homes where different feels good.
Our homes matter more than ever. Places to crave comfort, spaces to seek inspiration and where personalisation reigns supreme. Seeing how others decorate is a national pastime and to be invited into real Alternative homes, a curious delight.
Relaxed. Comfortable. Luxury.
Radio DJ and presenter Jo Whiley is one of the country's most popular presenters who also fronts coverage of the legendary Glastonbury music festival. We caught up with Jo after another momentus Glastonbury 2023 and asked her what her home means to her and why she chose Alternative Flooring.
"I love the feeling of comfort rugs can bring to the room. The Make Me A Rug service was so easy! Downstairs I have lots of soft rugs that I can sit on and watch TV, a sisal rug for the hallway and the main thoroughfare, and a lovely soft carpet in the snug."
Ethical. Curated. Unique.
Christina Horspool is the proud co-owner of Manar House, a grand Georgian Manor located in Aberdeenshire countryside. Christina has chosen Alternative Flooring floor coverings for all of her carpets so far from the subtly striped Wool Rhythm, rustic Sisal Herringbone to bold and vibrant Quirky Tartan. We caught up with Christina to get the latest update on her beautiful home and find out why she chose to undertake such a huge project.
"We were looking for a company who could create quality natural carpets ethically and Alternative Flooring stood out from the crowd! We love that origins of the company, the focus on sustainability and the beautiful quality and range of natural low impact carpets!"
Hand made. Antique. Eclectic.
Louise chose Alternative‘s natural sisal for her country pad and we have now worked with her on the wool carpet for her beautiful London house. It was a pleasure to chat to Louise again about her flooring choice, interior inspiration, and the decoration of her new home.
"Wool Pebble Omaha, it’s not white, but it’s a beautiful light cream, which goes with pretty much any colour palette on the walls. I also wanted a thick weave; it feels so luxurious and gives a real texture to the rooms and staircase."
Vintage. Modern. Glam.
Welcome to The Mad House. Kate completely renovated her north London villa where she lives with her husband, two sons and Enid the cat. You may be familiar with her home as it has graced the pages of many a magazine and starred on her award-winning blog and in books. It's a home that really shows you how to decorate creatively and well. Her philosophy is that a home should tell a story and make your heart sing when you open the front door.
"Spotty makes me happy to come home every day."
She sums up the look as Urban Glamour or, as she says, "you may prefer Modern Rustic."
Vibrant. Soulful. Welcoming.
Kemi's charming renovated grade II listed cottage is a warm, welcoming home for her two daughters and an inspiring space for the whole family to enjoy. She takes a colourful cue from her Nigerian and Jamaican heritage, and vibrant style from designers such as Kit Kemp. It's a house of fun with quite a few stairs to climb.
"When I see staircases, I see stripes. So we have Margo Selby Stripe on both staircases and the adjoining hallway which really lifts the space. And who wouldn't want to step onto the softest Wool Barefoot and Wool Milkshake in their bedrooms?"
Playful. Practical. Pink.
Emily's Edwardian villa is home to the Pink House husband, two boys and Ragdoll cat Coco. It is full of joie de vivre. She loves colour, pattern and particular shades of fluro and blush-rose pink. She loves the trapeze too and balances all these decorative elements in her home effortlessly. To Emily, pink stands for joy, passion and playfulness. It also means she lives and works somewhere that makes her happy.
"I've lived in homes with draughty floors and I can confidently say that I much prefer a lovely soft wool carpet underfoot! I like to feel cosy in my bedroom. I love how a quality carpet helps the space feel more luxurious and to add more pattern on my floors is a real joy!"
